One Mission Blog - reflections on the ministry of publishing

Thanks from Bishops to my AF colleagues!

December 13th, 2013 by Beth A. Lewis

I know how incredibly busy the Bishops across the Church are!  I am privileged to sit in the back of the room as a “resource person” during the ELCA’s Conference of Bishops meetings. So, to hear from two of our bishops in one day thanking me for the resources we publish is so touching!

This morning, Bishop Claire Burkat sent me a note and a couple of photos via Facebook.

She said “I wanted to send you this photo of the gifts I gave to our Southeastern Pennsylvania Deans yesterday for Christmas. Each received a copy of the Prayer Book for the Armed Services and an engraved copy of the pocket ELW. They loved them!”

Then, this afternoon, I received an email from Bishop Marie Jerge of the ELCA’s Upstate New York Synod.

She wrote,  “Just a word of thanks to all of you for the daily devotional book that you share with us so generously each year.  I buy a copy for any of my staff who want one each year.  It’s a great resource and is the one that Jim and I use each morning at breakfast to start our day.We receive so many gifts during the course of the year, but none compares to the Word of God.  Thanks for making it so available and easy to connect with the source of all life.”

Thank you, Bishops Claire & Marie, for taking time out of your busy schedules to thank my colleagues who, along with creative partners from across the Church, create these and many other great resources for use in congregations, homes, classrooms, synods, and many other places where people of faith live and work.

Advent blessings,
