Who tweets for the ELCA & ELCIC?

June 22nd, 2012 by Beth A. Lewis

I am fascinated by the creative ways various individuals and organizations use the power of social media to proclaim the Gospel and share information about their ministries.  While I participate in social networking via Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Linked-In, Google+ and Pinterest, I find that there simply isn’t time to keep up with all of these networks.  So, my preferred focus is on Twitter, which then feeds both my Facebook and Linked-In pages.

Recently, one of my “Twitter friends” (I don’t think that we have ever met in person, but we communicate frequently via social media), Miranda Gray @mirgray, who describes herself on Twitter as “IBM by day.  Lutheran Christian around the clock…” was following some of my tweets from an ELCA synod assembly.  She suggested that I put together a list of all of the synods that have Twitter accounts.  I thought that was a great idea!  So, while sitting in airports earlier this week as my husband & I were returning from our trip to Israel, Palestine & Jordan (watch for a blog post in the next few days on this powerful experience!) I spent a bit of time compiling a list of ELCA and ELCIC twitter accounts.  I didn’t try to include individual pastors, bishops, members or congregations (at least for now).  Instead, I have gathered a list of synods, churchwide, and seminary sites.  I am certain that I have missed some!  But, here’s the list I have so far.  I would welcome any additions and corrections!  I’ll try to keep it updated from time to time.

Note:  these are Twitter accounts.  Some are active and some are just placeholders.  I’ll leave it to you to decide if you would find it worthwhile to follow some, all, or none!

Here’s the list I’ve compiled so far:

Thanks, Miranda @mirgray for the suggestion!  It was fun to see how many of our ELCA and ELCIC colleagues are using Twitter for outreach & communication!
