What a great idea…..

January 27th, 2012 by Beth A. Lewis

Last Sunday, I had the privilege of worshiping at First Lutheran Church in Duluth, MN where my dear friends April & Judd Larson are pastors.  I attended both services and spoke about generational differences in the church during their adult forum between services.

But, I'm not so sure that this congregation learned much from me.  They already do so much so well to be gracious, hospitable and engaging for people of all ages!

But, one thing they do that really tickled me is that every Sunday, in their worship bulletin, they include page references for the lectionary readings for the day.  The page references are for both the pew Bible and for the Spark NRSV Bible!  They use Spark Sunday School for their kids and the older ones each have a Spark NRSV Bible!  So, to encourage them to open their Bibles and see the lessons in context, they provide the page numbers.

This is such a simple thing to do, but very effective.  A photo of their worship bulletin from last Sunday and the open Spark NRSV Bible is included below.

I'm sure they'd be delighted if you "stole" this idea for your congregation!  And, for the stories that are also in the Spark Story Bible, that page reference could be added, as well!

Thanks to the good people of First Lutheran Church for your warm welcome to me and your creative hospitality to all!
