One Mission Blog - reflections on the ministry of publishing

Com Con

August 8th, 2008 by Beth A. Lewis

Com Con sounds like a utility company, doesn’t it? But, it’s the ELCA Communicators’ Conference happening today and tomorrow in Chicago. I am here to speak on the topic of “Servant Marketing.” Last night, Pastor Peter Marty set the stage beautifully with his sermon in the opening worship. I especially loved his quotation from Frederick Buechner regarding the spider web. And, this morning, Rick Klau, who serves on the Augsburg Fortress Board of Trustees and is a dynamic leader at Google, will challenge “traditional” church communications. While I”m pleased to have been invited as a speaker, I’m even more pleased to have the opportunity to hear Rick speak! I always learn from him! I’ll try to jot some notes down to share with the rest of you via this blog later today or this weekend.

  • It’s great to see you at the Communicators’ Conference Beth. And thanks for sharing your workshop on Servant Marketing (sorry, I’m over in Rick’s workshop right now ). The good thing is that we have other bloggers on hand too to help cover this rich event:

It was great to see you, too, Paul! Are you kidding? I would have been in Rick’s workshop, too, if I hadn’t been leading the one on Servant Marketing. Actually, I was delighted to have a “full house” for my workshop. Though it was a bit of a challenge to squeeze what I offered in a full day workshop for the Pacifica Synod of the ELCA earlier this year in 1 hour and 15 minutes for this group! Oh, well. Blessings, Beth
